In the spirit of unity and camaraderie to ending hunger, Hon. Jimi Benson representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos State played host to the Founder and CEO of FoodClique Bolajoko Fadipe during icare Food Bank monthly food distribution tagged “Apo Anu ” to over 500 vulnerable people in Ikorodu.
FoodClique Support Initiative is an NGO leading the fight against hunger while icare Food Bank seek to erase hunger through several initiatives to help people in need. The Icare Foodbank gives sacks of non-perishable food to the vulnerable in our society i.e elderly, widows, unemployed, e.t.c and encourages the government to mobilize resource to fight hunger through its founder Hon Jimi Benson who is a Federal Lawmaker. Bolajoko Fadipe who recently returned to Nigeria after participating at the 13th Presidents United to Solve Hunger (PUSH) Summit at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign with the theme “Unify for a Hunger-free World”. The Campus Kitchens Projects 5th Annual Food Waste & Hunger Summit at IUPUI Indiana USA eulogize Hon Jimi Benson before presenting a certificate of appreciation to him for being the first lawmaker in Nigeria to establish a food bank. He thanked him for putting aside partisan politics in the fight against hunger and poverty in Nigeria through his partnership with anti hunger advocates. Stating further he said “we are counting on Hon Jimi Benson and we call on all members of the House of Representatives to remain committed to the longstanding bi-partisan conviction that nobody in this country should go hungry”
In his acceptance speech, Hon Jimi Benson said, “among my campaign promises was to set up a food bank, bring developments to Ikorodu, sponsor bills that tackles hunger and work with initiatives like FoodClique because this exemplifies the kind of public-private partnerships between the private sector and government that has great promise of delivering help effectively to people in need.
The visit was followed by a tour of the facility of icare FoodBank and a press conference where Hon Jimi Benson announced that he will sponsor new legislation to reduce food insecurity, food waste, and poverty
